By default, Raindrop stores and processes any and all data you send. This is done according to our Data Security and Privacy guidelines. If you would like to prevent sensitive data from being stored, processed, or even sent to Raindrop in the first place - we provide a few options.

PII Guard (Server Side Intelligent PII Redaction)

When events are received, Raindrop can intelligently strip PII from any user and model messages using a combination of pattern matching and AI models to detect and redact sensitive information. This is done at ingestion, meaning we only store the redacted version of the text and have no access to the original text. You can customize the PII you want redacted in the PII Playground and your events will show up as redacted across the dashboard. PII Guard Playground Size limits PII Guard redacts each value on its own, and each value can be at most 131,008 bytes of UTF-8 text (just under 128 KB). The limit applies to each span’s input, output and redacted attributes, and to each event’s input and output. Anything past the limit is cut off before redaction and is not stored, so Raindrop never keeps text that wasn’t checked for PII. Pricing PII Guard starts at $80/mo and has the following usage based tiers: You can enable PII Guard here or contact us if you have any questions.

SDK based redaction (Local)

You can also prevent common forms of PII from even being sent over the Internet in the first place. This is achieved by packaging a subset of our PII redaction code directly in our SDKs (currently only supported in the Typescript SDK with plans to bring it to the other SDKs soon). Since this happens client side, only PII that can be matched using RegEx patterns can be redacted. To use intelligent redaction, we’d recommend using PII Guard instead. In the TypeScript SDK, redactPii processes only ai_data.input and ai_data.output. It does not redact properties. Redaction of names, IP addresses, URLs, usernames, and zip codes is off by default. Pattern matching can miss PII, so local redaction does not guarantee that all PII is removed. Check out our SDK docs for instructions on enabling this.
